Well… clearly we are not just talking about Christmas, but also New Year’s Eve. And the question continues… what should I wear?
Undoubtedly now that the cold has officially arrived in Italy and tights are necessary, I would say that the first thing to think about is whether to cover our legs with stockings or trousers? I, in particular, am a fan of party dresses, but let’s not immediately rule out the option of trousers.
If you are traveling in Italy during this period and intend to spend Christmas and/or New Year’s Eve here, you probably already know that here you will celebrate both in a restaurant, bar, club, whatever. In any case, in a closed place. So we must think about dressing “in layers” so that when we arrive we take off our clothes while we are comfortable with the room temperature. Always warmed by the heating or by the people. Even, if we are talking about clubs, there will be lots and lots of people, and we can consider sleeveless clothes.
Let’s go back to the options. The trend of knitted dresses is real, and I have seen around many embellished with stones and details perfect to give that glam touch to the outfit. In addition of course, to the red dresses (super classic) and those in velvet. Here, add the option of trousers. Because a nice suit with a velvet jacket is very elegant.
For New Year’s Eve, let’s forget about white! Or not, but let’s not be scandalized if we see a lot, a lot of black. It’s not that everyone wants to wish a tragic new year with the color they use, but being a country in the middle of winter, black is almost always an obvious choice, and not very superstitious. We will therefore talk about silver, gold, black, and the most important: that it sparkles.
I remind you of a good tip: for tight and/or short dresses, darker stockings transform the look into less “showy”. While for medium-length or looser-fitting dresses on the hips, transparent stockings are more chic.
For shoes, the rule of comfort applies. And we have to consider whether we will be in the living room at home, outside or if we risk hurting ourselves with heels if we spend the whole evening on them. Closed shoes and boots (high or low) are definitely the favorites. I would discard suede ones (a bit out of use) and focus on leather ones.
Finally, let’s go with the accessories. Especially if the clothes are not shiny. Excellent opportunity to exaggerate with earrings, for example. If the clothes already have too much information, think about more discreet earrings.
All advice that follows a single rule if we want to be elegant: balance! Where there is too much, we put less of the other and where there is less, we exaggerate elsewhere. Coco Chanel said: “Before going out, look in the mirror and take something off”. But if we think first, maybe just maybe, it won’t be necessary! ;)
